Generations Past

There is no king who has not had a slave among his ancestors and no slave who has not had a king among his.

Edward Castor

Edward CASTOR, who was listed as Edmond on the 1860 & 1880 censuses and Edward on 1870 & 1920 censuses, was the son of Tobias and Cordelia Hickox CASTOR. He was born in 1852 in Ashland County, Ohio. He was married n 1873 in Ashland County, Ohio to Mary J. Boyd.

Mary, who was known as Molly, was born 15 Dec 1854. She was the daughter of Robert BOYD and Anne JOHNSTON.  I know little about Mollie and Ed, except that they must have been brave and adventurous. In 1883, with five small children in hand, they set out from Ashland County for Nebraska to be near Edward's half-brother, Tobias Castor Jr., who had made a name for himself in politics.

They settled in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska, wherescrapbook Mollie had another baby. Tragically, she died of Typhoid Fever before the baby was a year old.  She died on 15 Dec 1890 and was buried the next day at Wyuka Cemetery , Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska.

Edward brought his six children back to Ashland County where family could help care for them. Ed died alone in a hotel room at 502 S. Clark Street in Chicago, Illinois on the 10th of September, 1922. He died of Chronic Brights Disease.

Edward and Mollie had three sons and three daughters, the first five born in Perrysville, Ashland County, Ohio.
